On our hike on March 5, Carmen Petrus reminded us of the two-year anniversary of the hiking group. The starting point was the parking lot in Göritzhain, bus stop at the Chemnitz. With 13 hiking friends we went up the Wiederberg. Arriving at the top, we saw alpacas in the pasture. We turned left onto a dirt road and then right until we reached a road above Wiederau. The road then led us to Stein. The elongated town of Stein had something surprising to offer. Here we were greeted by Mrs. Funke, who accompanied us a bit through the place and took her photos.

The first surprise was a rock formation, after which the place Stein is said to have its name. They are large blocks of stone that build up an energy field that can also have a positive effect on humans. These rocks are probably of volcanic origin and also attract boulderers for climbing.

Not far from this group of rocks is the gymnasium, which was built in 1930 and was named after the gymnast Jahn. Here, too, is a terraced rocky terrain, which is also used for some events.

Worth seeing was also a small church with a adjacent bell tower, which was renewed with EU funding. Then we went uphill for a bit and turned left to Rabenberg. Here we visited the viewpoint ‘Zur goldenen Aussicht’ and looked into the valley of the Chemnitz. On the Rabenberg there is still a cross for the Rabenberg goat, which lived wild there from 1992 to 2002.
